Jennie Cousins - Issian Design

I grew up in Ilfracombe and have always loved North Devon. After adventuring away from home for a while, I have returned home to be content by the sea with my family.

I have always loved drawing. I work with marker pens mostly. I think this is because I have worked in schools for the last ten years and the enthusiasm with which a class of children approach a pack of felt tip pens has rubbed off on me! I like to layer up my work and will add oil pastel, paint and ink, scratching back through these surfaces to reveal texture and detail below. Sometimes I will also scan these layers and work digitally. My work is often characterised by multiple lines and cross-hatching.

I draw inspiration in particular from the local landscape, often walking the coast path to find the next view and getting rain lashed and muddy in the process!
