A workshop about how to make a rope mat by Colin Byfleet and Edward Crumpton: it’s a practical, hands-on workshop that gets you looking at exciting patterns and the maths behind making mats. Colin is ex-President and current Treasurer of the International Guild of Knot Tyers (IGKT). He is interested in the maths and science behind knots and also their universal usefulness and attractiveness. Edward is a local artist who studies traditional British rope weaving and knotting techniques as a medium to create sculptures. During the workshop, Colin and Ed will teach you to make your own rope mat, some basics on knots and a demonstration of how rope is made using Ed’s ropemaking machine. The price includes all materials and lunch will be provided.
